BRITISH ARMY AND NAVY
Two manuscripts concerning the armed forces under Queen Anne, comprising:
i. "Reports of the house of Commons concerning Debts Land forces, Navy. &c to December 1713. copyed from Mr Hampden's papers", detailing naval and army debts in relation to Parliamentary subsidies, 9 pages, plus blanks
ii. "List of Her Majesty's Troops according to their Seniority", with two lists of regiments of horse, dragoons, and foot, 4 pages, plus blanks, folio, also with a printed broadside, A List of the Principal Officers, Civil and Military, in Great Britain, in the Year 1710. The Parliamentary report that reveals the heavy indebtedness of the British military at the close of the War of the Spanish Succession is copied from the papers of Richard Hampden (1674-1728), a Whig MP critical of Queen Anne's government.
