xvii. [Bottée and Riffault]. A volume containing numerous printed and manuscript items relating to the supply of gunpowder and saltpetre to the French army. [Paris, 1769-1815], 4to, 3 printed royal ordinances (1769, 1789 and 1791) with extensive manuscript annotations, letterpress table for the production of gunpowder and saltpetre, 3 printed reports on blue paper relating to the supply of gunpowder (1806-1807), 2 manuscript leaves of accounts, 23 clerical copies of letters of thanks to MM Riffault and Bottée (3 February 1812-12 January 1815, many signed by Riffault; see below), contemporary half calf


Jean Joseph Auguste de Bottée and Jean René Denis Riffault were the authors of Traité de l'art de fabriquer la poudre à canon (1811) and L'art du salpetrier (1813); the letters record the receipt of these works by various European dignitaries.
