A PAIR OF LOUIS XIV STYLE GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED TURTLESHELL AND BRASS INLAID EBONY BOULLE MARQUETRY THERMOMETER AND BAROMETER SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY


one stamped L. DELAITRE, each with a cresting surmounted by opposing winged cherubs flanking a globe, the elongated rectangular case with an inset engraved dial and central tube, above a stylised scallopshell within an engraved border of scrolls and bellflowers with a foliate finial, restorations

The marchand-mercier Claude-Francois Julliot is known to have kept a barometer and a thermometer of almost identical model in his stock: '663 - un baromètre et un thermomètre fond d'écaille rouge à bande de cuivre lisse sur laquelle les degrés sont tracés; garnis d'un cadre à groupe d'enfants du haut et à culot à rinceau par bas...'
