the Italian greyhound recumbent on a cushion, inscribed to the underside Imperatrice Catherine de Russie in black script, blue crossed swords mark
43cm. long, 17in.
For two similar see, Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire, Chatsworth, The House, London, 2002, pp.176-177. The Duchess writes 'On it [the piano] sits... the Meissen models of the Empress of Russia's dog, a good old mongrel on a grand china cushion'.
