TWO MEISSEN FIGURES OF A PUG AND A CAT MOUNTED ON GILT-BRONZE CANDLESTICKS, THE PORCELAIN AND MOUNTS, MID-18TH CENTURY
the seated pug wearing a gilt-heightened puce collar and modeled scratching his right cheek and the brown-spotted cat with a bleeding bird in its mouth, each mounted upon slightly differing gilt-bronze bases affixed at the back with scrolling branches terminating in small porcelain blossoms and supporting a central foliate candle nozzle.

Sotheby’s Scientific Research department used non-invasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
