A PAIR OF BERLIN (K.P.M) PORCELAIN RECTANGULAR PLAQUES, 'THE PROPOSAL' AND 'THE BRIDAL PARTY' LATE 19TH CENTURY 


each signed for Charles H. Deininger, painted with figures in Renaissance costume, 'The Proposal', with the male suitor placing a ring on the woman's finger, German silver on display in the background; 'The Bridal Party', with the bride preparing for her wedding day at a dressing table, impressed sceptre marks over K.P.M, one with letter H, the other letter J, numerals 395 and 315, in gilt-wood frames.

The British Royal Collection holds several plaques painted by Deininger, including a full-length profile portrait of Queen Victoria (signed and dated 1851), a three-quarter-length portrait of Prince Albert wearing a suit of armor (circa 1844-72) and a full-length portrait of Queen Victoria with Princess Helena in her arms and accompanied by Prince Albert (circa 1847-50). Another plaque by Deininger, 'Portrait of a Lady', was exhibited at the 1876 International Exhibition and is listed in its Official Catalogue, United States ed., Pt. II, p. 86, no. 170.
