Condition Report

These elegant and attractive pieces are in overall good condition. The blue john and the white marble in very good condition with minor marks and scratches consistent with age and use. 

The bronze has been regilt as stated in the catalogue and one garland to body detached which needs to be re-secured. One with body very slightly tilting to one side but this can be straightened through dismantling and re-securing.

Catalogue Note

The pattern for the base of these perfume burners, which are typically made from white marble, appear in at least four designs from Boulton's metal-work Pattern Book I preserved in the Birmingham City Museum. For a pair of white marble perfume burners of identical form in the collection at Harewood House, Yorkshire, and a further example with a blue john body, see those illustrated in Nicholas Goodison, Ormolu: The Work of Matthew Boulton, London, 2002, pp. 302-303, pls. 268-269.
