A LOUIS XVI-STYLE GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED MARBLE 'CERCLES TOURNANTS' PEDESTAL CLOCK , CIRCA 1900


in the form of a lidded urn with serpent handles, the minute and hour rings formed of enamel plaques, the bell striking movement with platform escapement mounted to the underside, the time indicated by Cupid pointing with an arrow, the griotte marble base inset with plaques depicting putti engaged in the arts; the conforming pedestal with ram masks and paw feet

This clock is based on a Louis XVI model with revolving dials in the 'Au Balancier de Cristal Collection' (illustrated Tardy, French Clocks the World Over, Part Two, Paris, 1981, p.90). Dufaud is known to have produced a few clocks after this model: one for example sold Christie's London, 20 September 2012, lot 162.
