CLIVE BARKER, BRING ME THE HEAD OF DARTH VADER, 1999, TOGETHER WITH THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK JUMBO STILL, US, 1980

One of the leading British Pop Artists, Clive Barker made his name in the late sixties and for over forty years has been working in chrome-plated steel, bronze and brass, replicating objects from everyday life – including Coca-Cola bottles, a newspaper, hand grenades, film related pieces and even a set of false teeth. The humorous touches and the acceptance of the banal and the kitsch contribute to the originality of Barker's work. In 1963 he began making his first sculptures. His first one-man exhibitions were held in London at the Robert Fraser Gallery in 1968 and at the Hannover Gallery in 1969. Barker has produced works depicting artist friends including Allen Jones, David Hockney, Marianne Faithfull and Francis Bacon, but the main focus of his work remains firmly in his cast sculptures and on an imaginative reworking of the still-life tradition. Barker’s work has been widely exhibited at high-profile galleries and included in many of the most important Pop Art shows worldwide. Public collections of his work are held by the following institutions: Tate (London), The Victoria and Albert Museum (London), The British Museum (London), The National Portrait Gallery (London), The Imperial War Museum (London), The Arts Council Collection, Hayward Gallery (London), The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Smithsonian Institution (Washington, D.C.), Contemporary Arts Society, British Council, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Berardo Collection, The Sintra Museum of Modern Art (Sintra, Portugal), Wolverhampton Art Gallery and Städtische Kunsthalle (Mannheim, Germany). This piece is being sold with a US jumbo still showing a great image of Darth Vader. This is truly is a unique Star Wars sculpture.
