Upper right diagonal half used as ½ c on 1853 printed “General Land and Pension Agency” printed sheet to Hartford tied by July 29 (1853) New Haven, Conn. postmark,with Philatelic Foundation certificate (2012). Scott retail price of $60,000 represents the 2013 selling price of this cover.
One of two unique bisects in United States philately, the other being the 1869 6c cover, also part of the Bakwin collection and offered as a separate lot in this auction.
