A ROMAN MARBLE PORTRAIT HEAD OF A YOUNG WOMAN, CIRCA 3RD CENTURY A.D., ON CIRCA 18TH CENTURY ONYX SHOULDERS


with centrally-parted hair gathered in a large spiral plait over the back of the head, her eyes with drilled incised irises and crescentic pupils; nose and neck restored.

Height including red marble socle: 51.5 cm.; 1ft. 8¼in. height of head: 17cm.; 6½in.

Please note the present work has recent damage to the later tip of the nose that is not evident in the catalogue or online photography.
