A GROUP OF SEVEN SMALL SCARAB-SHAPED INTAGLIOS
hardstone, glass and ceramic, five mounted in gold wire as a small bracelet; and a small oval hardstone intaglio; in small green paper box with printed label: 'WARRANTED MERCURIAL GILT IF STAMPED G.W. & CO.' with small handwritten note: 'Antiquities found in Rome, given to Henrietta Sophia Benfield by her mother.'
bracelet: 7cm., diameter; 2¾in.
Henrietta Sophia Benfield (1796-1857) was the daughter of Paul Benfield and his wife, Mary Frances, daughter of Henry Swinburne (1743-1803).
