The canvas has been lined. There is a fine craquelure pattern visible throughout the canvas, most noticeable in the sky and water. There is a slightly discoloured layer of surface varnish.
UV light inspection reveals some flecked retouchings throughout. There is an area of retouching in the sky to the lower right of the castle. There is a repaired vedrtical tear, approximately 5cm in length in the trees lower left. There are a number of small restorations in the lower portion of the work in the darker areas. Some other touches elsewhere.
Held in a decorative gilt frame.
