Woman and Cat
signed in Cyrillic l.r.; further signed, titled in Cyrillic and Latin and dated 1983 on the reverse
oil on canvas
195 by 130cm, 76¾ by 51in.
Original canvas. The tacking edges have been covered with tape. Several very fine cracks are running diagonally across the composition. There is scattered craquelure in places with minor associated paint loss, most notably to the chest of the figure on the right and just above the head of the animal. There is a small area of paint loss near the lower right edge, which has been crudely retouched as well as some very minor scattered flecks of paint loss elsewhere. There is a light layer of surface dirt and the varnish has slightly discoloured, most notably below the figure's heads. Inspection under UV light confirms the presence of the aforementioned area of retouching. Held in a gilt and black-painted tray frame. Unexamined out of frame.
