Original canvas which is slightly slack on its stretcher. A canvas repair patch is visible on the reverse. There are two protrusions with areas of paint loss at the bottom edge where nails from the stretcher have pressed against the surface. There is another small paint loss to the chin of the girl in the upper right. There is a puncture in the green shirt of the boy above the teacher's head and another near the centre of the left edge in the brown jacket of the boy. Cracks are visible in the areas of impasto. Inspection under UV light reveals restorations to the teacher's papers, corresponding to the aforementioned canvas repair patch, below the teacher's sleeve, to the sleeve, book and hair of the boy in the lower left and other scattered areas. Held in a gold coloured wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
