Cracks following the grain of the wood are visible throughout the paint surface. There is a joint in the panel running horizontally across the top edge. There is a small fleck of paint loss to the left of the centre of the top edge. A small woodworm hole is visible in the panel just to the right of the signature. In the white drapery in the lower left is a yellowed glue stain. The varnish layer is generally discoloured and there is a layer of surface dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals retouching to the sitter's skirt, to the background above her torso, below her knee, to her hand, to her left shoulder as well as to the background. Held in a rustic wooden frame with a canvas slip. Unexamined out of frame.
