INTERIOR WITH LILACS

signed in Latin and dated 1927 l.l., signed in Latin l.r.; further numbered N.9 on the reverse and bearing a Poznań Society of Friends of Fine Arts exhibition label on the stretcher

oil on canvas

99 by 99cm, 39 by 39in.

Original canvas. There are tiny flecks of paint loss visible in places, most notably to the top of the bouquet on the left, to the foliage in the middle, to the right side of the mirror frame, above the right chair and to the carpet towards the middle of the bottom edge. There is a tiny dent above the left corner of the mirror. There is craquelure throughout which is most pronounced in the areas of light impasto. Paint shrinkage is visible in places, most notably to the chest of drawers and below the chair in the middle. There are minor frame abrasions along the edges. The surface is covered in a light layer of dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals some minor spots of retouching to the top of the curtain, to the sky, to the wall on the left and to the left bouquet. Inspection under UV light also reveals an unevenly discoloured varnish layer. Held in a black wooden frame.
