JOSEPH ANDREAS WEISS
VIEW OF THE NEVA FROM THE TROITSKY BRIDGE
signed with initials and dated 18—67 l.r.
oil on canvas
76 by 122cm, 32½ by 42¼in.
Original canvas. The tacking edges have been taped over with brown gummed tape. There is buckling in all four corners and stretcher bar marks are visible along the edges and vertically through the centre of the composition. There is craquelure throughout the composition. Some of this appears unstable and has associated flaking, such as towards the two right corners. These areas also have retouching which is visible to the naked eye. Abrasions with correpsonding minor paint loss are visible along the edges. There is a discoloured varnish layer and spots of dirt in places. Inspection under UV light reveals sweeping restoration to the two right corners and other minor spots of scattered retouching. Held in a painted frame. Unexamined out of frame.
