The canvas has been strip-lined. There are minor frame abrasions along the edges. Craquelure is visible throughout the composition. There is a small area of paint loss to one of the sitter's locks in the upper right. A thin horizontal line of retouching to the background centre left is just visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals some minor retouching to the face; scattered retouching to the background including the aforementioned line; infilling to the coat; as well as a discoloured varnish layer. Held in a gilt wooden frame with decorative mouldings.
