After the Revolution Golovin painted a series of portraits of his closest friends, one of whom was the economist and art collector Friedrich Eduardovich Krimmer. The precision of the sitter's features and spectacles contrasts with the undefined background, placing all emphasis on his inner psychology. The quiet restraint of the colour scheme is suggestive of the similar characteristics of the sitter.
