THE ST. ANDREW THE FIRST CALLED SERVICE, 19TH CENTURY, ATTRIBUTED TO MEISSEN


a pair of plates, each moulded with Gotzkovsky erhabene Blumen and painted with flowers, the borders reserved with the Imperial Russian arms and the cross of the Order of St. Andrew, the rim gilt with a trellis pattern, blue crossed swords marks, 24.8 cm. diameter, 9 ¾ in.

The original Meissen service was given by Augustus III of Poland and Saxony to Empress Elizabeth of Russia in 1745. Like many Imperial services additional pieces were commissioned throughout the 19th century.
