Property from a Private American Collection
a unique object, signed and annotated in ink on the image, illustrated with paint and a handprint, framed, 1963, printed later
Overall 19¾ by 24 in. (50.2 by 61 cm.)
This unique object is in generally excellent condition. As is common with Peter Beard's photographs as a result of his working process, there are a few handling creases, stray drips of paint, faint scuffs and minor edge-wear. The sheet is very gently rippled.
The annotation in ink on the image reads: '"Very calm, with mighty paws - flows through the flowing grass, red-mouthed, silent, with the roar of the thunder in his chest." Karen Blixen . . . from Longing for Darkness / Peter Beard.'
'2' [circled] is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse.
