IRVING PENN | 'WOMAN IN CHICKEN HAT (LISA FONSSAGRIVES-PENN) (A)'
'WOMAN IN CHICKEN HAT (LISA FONSSAGRIVES-PENN) (A)'
platinum-palladium print, flush-mounted to aluminum, signed, titled, dated, editioned '2/20,' and annotated in pencil and stamped on the reverse, framed, 1948-49, printed in 1984
Overall 25 by 22 in. (63.5 by 55.9 cm.)
This platinum-palladium print is in generally excellent condition. The margins are warm at the edges of the image, likely a result of processing. Gray soiling is visible along the upper edge of the margin adjacent to the aluminum registration strip, and there is a faint fingerprint in the lower right margin corner.
On the reverse of the mount, the annotations in pencil are: 'JF' '2993' [circled], 'Rives Paper on Aluminum / Multiple coating and printing / 1 Platinum-palladium / 2 Platinum-palladium / Print made March 1984.' The stamps read 'Hand-coated by the photographer' and 'Deacidified.' The copyright stamp is ink-annotated 'Courtesy of Vogue' and '1983.'
The edition stamp on the reverse indicates that in addition to the 20 numbered prints in platinum, there may also exist no more than 5 unnumbered, but signed, gelatin silver prints.
