MANUEL ÁLVAREZ BRAVO
signed and annotated 'Mexico' in ink on the reverse, 1931 (MoMA, p. 76)
7⅜ by 9½ in. (18.7 by 24.1 cm.)
This print, on light- to medium-weight paper and with a pleasingly warm tonality, is in generally very good condition. When examined closely in high raking light, the following are visible: unobtrusive craquelure overall; a 3-inch glossy deposit in the lower right quadrant; a small glossy area at the upper left corner; a tiny crease in the upper right quadrant; extremely faint silvering at the lower right corner in a dark area; and a few deposits of original retouching in the upper portion of the image. The aforementioned are only visible in high raking light and do not detract from the overall fine appearance of this photograph.
The print is trimmed to the image and there is minute wear to the edges and corners, with occasional minor chips to the emulsion, some of which appear to have been inexpertly retouched.
There are yellow streaks overall on the reverse, likely from old mounting adhesive.
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
