UNTITLED, PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (NUDE SELF-PORTRAIT PINCHING WAIST)
5⅛ by 5⅛ in. (13 by 13 cm.)
This photograph, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. As is sometimes typical of Francesca Woodman's lifetime prints, it has been printed slightly asymmetrically on the sheet. As is visible in the catalogue illustration, there are several wavy areas in the image which appear to be in the negative and not features of this print.
When examined in raking light, several small, soft handling creases that do not appear to break the emulsion are visible in the image and the margins. In the lower and right margins are gray and light-pink areas, likely due to stray exposure in the darkroom. There is some wear at the margin edges and bumped or creased corners . The left edge is slightly rippled and the margin edges are slightly curled.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
