platinum-palladium print, flush-mounted to aluminum, signed, titled, dated, editioned '9/50,' and annotated in pencil and stamped on the reverse, framed, 1954, printed in 1976 (Moments Preserved, p. 23; Irving Penn: Platinum Prints, pl. 36)
19½ by 19½ in. (49.5 by 49.5 cm.)
This platinum-palladium print is in generally excellent condition. The margins are warm at the edges of the image, likely a result of processing, and there is occasional faint soiling. There is occasional faint yellow and brown staining along the margin edges and a faint yellow fingerprint in the lower right margin corner. The corners are gently bumped and the lower left margin corner is abraded.
On the reverse of the mount are the following: some soiling and abrasions to the mount's upper paperply; and tiny black and brown droplets in the upper left quadrant. The annotations on the reverse are: 'BC,' 454' [circled], 'BF 360 Paper on Aluminum / Multiple coating and printing / 1 Platinum / 2 Platinum / 3 Platinum-palladium / Print made December 1976.' The stamps read 'Hand-coated by the photographer' and 'Deacidified.'
The edition stamp on the reverse indicates that in addition to the 50 numbered prints in platinum, there may also exist no more than 25 unnumbered, but signed, gelatin silver prints.
