THREE YOUNG WOMEN AGAINST WALL WITH CHALK DRAWING
signed and annotated in pencil on the reverse, cornered to card, circa 1938 (cf. In the Street, p. 9)
5½ by 8¼ in. (14 by 21 cm.)
This early print, trimmed to the image and on single-weight paper with a slight surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. When examined closely in raking light, the following are visible: 2 sharp creases in the right portion of the image; a few hairline scratches; and a small scratch at the lower right edge with attendant deposits of retouching. The corners are rubbed and there is minuscule, minimal edge chipping.
The reverse is faintly soiled, and there is a stray blue crayon mark. The following annotations are in pencil on the reverse in the photographer's hand: 'neg in Wash'; 'nn 16'; and '46.' '7' is in an unidentified hand in blue crayon.
On the reverse of the mount 'only 1'; '$6,000'; 'NN 16'; 'Wash'; and 'd5' are in pencil.
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
