IRVING PENN | 'BATHING NUDE: SOAPING REAR (A)' (NEW YORK)
'BATHING NUDE: SOAPING REAR (A)' (NEW YORK)
platinum-palladium print, flush-mounted to aluminum, signed, titled, dated, editioned '1/15,' and annotated in pencil and stamped on the reverse, framed, 1978, printed in 1993-94
18⅞ by 18⅞ in. (47.9 by 47.9 cm.)
This platinum-palladium print is in generally excellent condition. The margins are warm at the edges of the image, likely a result of processing. There are small registration markings in graphite near each corner of the image in the margin. There are a few rust-colored deposits, faint gray scuffs, and a band of uneven brown-yellow discoloration along the upper edge on the reverse.
On the reverse of the mount, the annotations in pencil are: 'RM,' 'REF: 370,' 'Rives Paper on Aluminum / Multiple coating and printing / 1 Platinum-palladium / 2 Platinum-palladium / Print made 1993-1994.' The stamps read 'Hand-coated by the photographer,' 'Platinum and Palladium print,' and 'Deacidified.'
The edition stamp on the reverse indicates that in addition to the 15 numbered prints in platinum, there may also exist no more than 12 unnumbered, but signed, gelatin silver prints.
