'HIPPIE FAMILY KELLY'
platinum-palladium print, flush-mounted to aluminum, signed, titled, dated, editioned '5/25,' and annotated in pencil and stamped on the reverse, framed, 1967, printed in 1981 (Passage, p. 166; Platinum Prints, pl. 47)
16⅝ by 14¼ in. (42.2 by 36.2 cm.)
This platinum-palladium print is in generally excellent condition. The margin is yellowed in a thin band at the periphery of the image. There are tiny graphite mark in each margin corner. There is minor wear at the upper edge of the margin and of the reverse of the mount. The aforementioned do not affect the image in any way.
On the reverse of the mount, the annotations in pencil are: '2737' (circled), 'Rives paper on Aluminum / Platinum-palladium,' and 'print made January 1981.' There is also an illegible notation in pencil at the upper right corner on the reverse. The stamps read 'Photograph by Irving Penn Copyright [1967 in pencil] by Irving Penn [and the Cowles Communications Inc., in pencil] Not to be reproduced without written permission of the photographer,' 'Hand-coated by the photographer' and 'Deacidified.'
The edition stamp on the reverse indicates that in addition to the 25 numbered prints in platinum metals, there may also exist no more than 15 unnumbered, but signed, silver prints.
