This wonderful album of pictorialist photographs is to our knowledge unique. Most of the photographs were taken in and around Mexico City between 1903 and 1919. All are attributed to Edmond Hamel, a French national living in Mexico. Little is known about the photographer. He might have learned photography in France before settling in Mexico in 1903. Hamel is listed as a “carroceria” (a coachbuilder) in Mexico City in 1903. He stayed there until at least 1919.
