For the eleventh edition of Ornellaia Vendemmia d'Artista, the American artist Shirin Neshat has interpreted the character of Ornellaia 2016 - "La Tensione". The photographer, director and video artist uses her destabilising and poetic visual language to allude to the strength and dynamism of this vintage through the words of the illustrious 11th-century Persian poet Omar Khayyam. A central theme in "La Tensione" is wine as a moment of social sharing; a vital force which, in the words of the Persian poet, should be "enjoyed during our brief stay on this earth". The labels represent details of women's faces, hands and bodies, and are entirely covered in Farsi. The contrasts between the softness of skin and the graphic nature of the text seduce the eye and set the imagination running.
Proceeds from this online benefit auction of rare Ornellaia bottles will go to support the Mind’s Eye Program at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
