Description

NOTORIOUS/LES ENCHAINES (1946) POSTER, FRENCH

Artist: Bernard Lancy (1892-1964)

Unframed: 160 x 119 cm (63 x 47 in.)

This film was directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, and stars Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains. It was filmed during the last year of World War II, and is a complex story of espionage during that time. Bernard Lancy was a prolific creator of film posters and created the artwork for many notable French and foreign films. Lancy’s artwork is simple yet extraordinarily moving with its subtle use of colour to convey a mood. This exceptional poster is not only one of Lancy's most celebrated works, but also one of the most striking film posters of the 20th century. Exceptionally rare French poster, that has only surfaced a couple of times.
