This British drama was directed by Ken Loach. The film is based on the 1968 novel A Kestrel for a Knave, written by Barry Hines. It is part of the kitchen sink realism movement that developed in the UK in the late 50s and early 60s. This movement focused on those that were disillusioned with modern society, and on the domestic lives of working class Britons.
