This film was directed by Karel Reisz. It was an adaptation of the 1958 novel of the same name by Alan Sillitoe. It is part of the kitchen sink realism movement that developed in the UK in the late 50s and early 60s. This movement focused on those that were disillusioned with modern society, and on the domestic lives of working class Britons. This is one of the most sought after posters from the British 'kitchen sink' genre.
