The present lot is another example of the Alaska IV prototype made for NASA in the late 1970s (see lot 18). The Alaska IV digital Speedmasters carried over similar design motifs from their mechanical counterparts with the lyre lugs and black bezel, and adding the functionality of a calendar and split seconds.
This example is one of the later batches of the prototype which does not feature a hand engraved number to the back.
