Condition Report

The panel is cradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is dirty, and the varnish is discoloured. An old, repaired horizontal split runs almost the width of the panel just above centre, from the right-hand margin. There is a small area of loss on the left-hand margin just above centre, and a visibly retouched diagonal scratch and associated loss 5cm. long above the man carrying pies centre left. There are a handful of pin-prick losses in the pedestal, above one of the water jars at Christ's feet, and in the lower right corner. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a line of fine retouching along the aforementioned split and losses, as well as very minor pin-prick spot retouchings scattered in the background. There also appears to be some strengthening in the darks of the bride's dress, and in the dark clothes of the man centre right. The painting will respond very well to cleaning and is in fair overall condition. Offered in an ebonised wood frame with wave decoration in good condition.
