Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is slightly dirty, and the varnish is clear and even. There is evidence of wear, particularly visible in the table, centre right, and there are fine lines of old discoloured retouching visible throughout the background, to disguise the network of craquelure. There is further visible retouching to a horizontal scratch, upper left, approx. 19 cm. long. These are confirmed under ultraviolet light, which also reveals horizontal bands of retouching along the upper and lower margin, approx. 2 cm. wide. Fine lines and small spots of retouching are scattered in the girl's face and chest, with slightly more concentrated retouchings in both her arms and in a more concentrated area in the table, cushion and curtain. In overall fair condition.
