Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is clean and the varnish clear and even. A slight degree of wear is visible throughout. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a cm.-wide strip of retouching along the side of the neck of the figure on the left; pinprick retouchings in his white sleeves; some broader retouchings in the sleeves of the man in armour behind and in his proper left shoulder, as well as in the right-hand side of his hair. There is a handful of other scattered minor retouchings, but the painting is in overall good condition, without a need for further intervention.
