Property from the SØR Rusche Collection is available to view at Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, 13 – 18 September (weekdays 9am – 4.30pm; weekend 12-5pm).
The panel is formed of 3 horizontal planks. There is a horizontal, repaired split running the width of the panel across the lower-most plank, supported by 8 battens on the reverse. There is another horizontal horizontal split running the width of the panel through the centre. The joins and splits and their associated lines of retouching are visible to the naked eye from the front. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these, and further reveals wash retouchings throughout, and some slightly more concentrated, small areas scattered in the still life. The painting is in overall fair condition.
