Condition Report

Property from the SØR Rusche Collection is available to view at Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, 13 – 18 September (weekdays 9am – 4.30pm; weekend 12-5pm).

The panel is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is clean, and the varnish is clear and even. In raking light it is possible to discern retouching to a diagonal surface scratch upper centre, measuring 5 cm. long. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals other small retouchings scattered in the sky, and in the tree trunk and boulder on the left-hand side. There are small retouchings in the backs of the three principle figures in the foreground, and a couple in the lower right corner. None of these impede the legibility of the image, which appears fresh with beautifully preserved wet in wet brushwork, and is in overall good condition.
