Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.
The canvas has a very firm relining, the paint surface is relatively clean, and the varnish is discoloured. An area of slightly more pronounced craquelure is visible in the clouds in the centre, with some visible associated retouching. Inspection under ultraviolet light is impeded by the opaque varnish, but areas of retouching are just visible in the sky, notably in the upper left corner and in the centre. Other small areas of retouching are in the grassy area of the foreground (centre), and in the foliage upper right, but it is hard to discern any further intervention and the painting appears in overall good condition.
