Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The panel is heavily cradled, and appears to be made up of two vertical planks, the join of which, approx. a third from the left-hand side, is visible from the front. Also visible is a split which runs the height of the panel, just right of centre, and another vertical split which runs vertically up from the lower margin, 2 in. from the right-hand side, approx. three-quarters of the height of the panel. The paint surface is clean and the varnish relatively clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching along the aforementioned splits and join, as well as to another vertical surface crack, running from the centre of the upper margin, down to the uppermost vine leaf. There appears to be little other intervention, save for fine lines of retouching to two diagonal, superficial scratches running up from the lower margin, each approx. 5 in. long, as well as a handful of scattered, minor retouchings amongst some of the blooms. The painting is in fair overall condition, with the details of the still life very nicely preserved.
