The oak panel is cradled, flat and stable. In raking light, it is possible to discern old retouching in two horizontal lines which run the width of the panel about 1/3 of the way from each margin, possibly to address on old split. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these and further reveals small retouchings in the background, upper centre, next to the buttons of the coat of the old man, and in his arm at the back of his chair. The painting is in overall fair condition. Offered in a brown Dutch style frame in good condition.
