Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The canvas is lined, and the paint surface is slightly dirty with a slightly discoloured varnish. There is minor frame abrasion along all four edges, as well as faintly visible stretcher marks with some associated retouching along them. The sky has a degree of wear, with the canvas weave showing through in certain areas and scattered discoloured retouchings both to reduce the appearance of craquelure and along small, repaired tears. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms what is visible to the naked eye, and reveals the centre of the sky to have the most concentrated amount of retouching. The main composition however is much better preserved. In overall fair condition.
