Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The panel is cradled and flat. There are a handful of small losses to the paint surface - upper right in the sky, in the bridge next to the lady, and in the lower left corner. The paint surface is otherwise stable, slightly dirty and with a slightly discoloured varnish. A restored horizontal split, running the width of the panel, runs about 3 in. down from the upper margin - discoloured retouching is visible across this. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms this but also reveals a very opaque varnish, beneath which it is difficult to discern other intervention. There are certainly some small scattered patches of retouching in the sky, but the buildings and foreground appear to be relatively untouched.
