Condition Report

This work is available to view at Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, 13 – 18 September (weekdays 9am – 4.30pm; weekend 12-5pm).

The canvas to which the paper is applied is unlined, the paint surface is slightly dirty, and the varnish is clear and even. Retouching is visible to the naked eye along the right and left margins, notably the former. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals small retouchings throughout the central figure, in the legs of the right-hand figure, and in the bodies of Cupid and the figure on the left. A more concentrated area of retouching 1 x 1 cm. is found in the upper right corner, and other small retouchings are scattered in the background. In overall good condition.
