Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The bevelled panel has a recent, rectangular pine support adhered to the reverse affixed by 2 further, smaller square pine supports. These would appear to support a vertical crack which runs the width of the panel a third of the way from the lower margin, and which is visible from the front, and has associated small paint losses and retouchings (visible in the catalogue illustration). There is evidence of frame abrasion along all four margins, as well as some losses, notably upper left and upper right. The paint surface is dirty. There are visible retouchings scattered throughout, notably to a diagonal scratch 1cm. long in the background just above the sitter's head. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings. In overall moderate condition.
