This painting is related to the engraving, in the opposite sense, by Barthel Beham of circa 1526, examples of which are held in the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich (inv. no. 1920:254), and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.1 The model for the print was long thought to be by an artist from the circle of Jacopo de' Barbari, but this idea has since been dismissed.
