Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is clean, and the varnish is clear and even. There is a spot of paint loss as well as more concentrated areas of retouching, notably: in the white drapery of his proper right shoulder, and the white drapery lower left; to a repaired damage along the lower margin, approx. 15 cm. from the left margin, measuring 3 by 6 cm.; to a diagonal scratch in the cuff of his sleeve, lower centre, approx. 12 cm. long; in a more concentrated area just above his hand; and scattered throughout the red drapery and the background. None of these detract from the legibility of the image, which appears bright and ready to hang.
