A partial copy after Guercino's larger original canvas (222.5 x 159 cm.) in the State Hermitage, Saint Petersburg (inv. no. GE-26).1 The original painting, executed in 1653, includes the figure of Saint Catherine's executioner, who stands with his sword at the ready between her and the spiked wheel.
